Opposite leaves, oblong-lanceolate, 8-13 (18.5) mm long by 2.5-5 mm wide, petioles about 1 mm long. Zygomorphic flowers, solitary, subsesile 30-35 mm long, lilac, tubular calyx 10-10.5 mm long, bilabiate, 5-lobed; stamens 2; gynobasic style; bifid stigma. It thrives in the Pinus forest at an altitude of 2,600 m. Endemic plant of the state of Coahuila, Mexico. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant.

Columnar body cactus up to 30 cm tall and 10 cm in diameter; tubercles woolly in axils, conical, and dark bluish-green; circular areoles with 20 to 30 whitish radial spines up to 1 cm long and 7 to 15 central spines that are usually reddish. Funnel-shaped flowers, arranged near the apex like a crown, 15-20 mm long and 15 mm in diameter, pink, purple or red. Fruit clavate, 20 mm long, red. Endemic plant of Mexico, it thrives in the states of Morelos, Mexico and Guerrero. It is used as an ornamental plant.
