Abstract

Twentyeight species of marine benthic
macroalgae are reported for the exposed
side of the breakwater of the Salina Cruz
harbour in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, Tropical Pacific Mexico. The identity of
Predaea subpeltata E.Y. Dawson
(Gymnophoeaceae, Rhodophyta) in the
breakwater is discussed; this is the first
collection of the species since it was
described for Puerto Huatulco, Oaxaca, 25
years ago. Also, a collection of cystocarpic
Cryptonemia angustata (Setchell &
Gardner) E.Y. Dawson (Halymeniaceae,
Rhodophyta) is found in a first time for the
deep benthos (27-84m depth) at Gulf of
Tehuantepec, Oaxaca-Chiapas since it was
described in 1937. This species seems to
be strongly associated to an up-welling
process, previously described for the area.
