In this study, Salvia divinorum is described and illustrated as a new record for Veracruz. This taxon belongs to the herbaceous species of the understory of the cloud forest, that is found on the eastern hillsides of the Cofre de Perote in Veracruz, Mexico. During the work aimed to carry out the inventory of the flora from the margins of the rivers that originate in the eastern hillsides of the Cofre de Perote, in the central region of Veracruz, specimens of Salvia (Lamiaceae) that were different from the known species of the state, were registered. When these collected specimens were identified, it was concluded that they belong to Salvia divinorum, a species previously known as endemic to Oaxaca, where it has ceremonial importance for the Mazatec. The species is represented by a population in the understory of the cloud forest, along the river margins, at 1500 m of elevation, associated with Carpinus caroliniana, Clethra mexicana, Liquidambar styraciflua, Meliosma alba and Quercus germana. The population is apparently healthy, and it does not show signs of use or management, however, it is necessary to do more research along the river to determine if there are more localities where this species can be found.
