Abstract

Various floristic studies in the state of Chihuahua reveal that the Fabaceae family is one of the most important in terms of diversity, abundance, and economic importance. A specific objective of the Management Program of the Natural Protected Area, Area for the Protection of Flora and Fauna Médanos de Samalayuca (APFFMS) is to have systematized, available, and updated information on biodiversity knowledge. Therefore, the objective of this work is to contribute to updating the Fabaceae list of the ANP Médanos de Samalayuca. As part of the PJ018 CONABIO project in the APFFMS, five sampling zones were established in the dry, wet and post-wet seasons (2017-2018) in search of legumes. The specimens were identified through taxonomic keys and databases. The material was verified by specialists from the CIIDIR herbarium. The results of this work substantially increase the previous Fabaceae inventory for the area within the Medanos de Samalayuca Protected Natural Area Management Program by registering 27 taxa. The present work increases floristic knowledge and contributes to decision-making for conservation and planning.
