MEDICINAL PLANTS AND PRELIMINARY FLORISTIC LIST FROM THE MUNICIPALITY OF HUASCA DE OCAMPO, HIDALGO, MÉXICO

Abstract

A study of wild plants in the municipality
of Huasca de Ocampo, Hidalgo with medicinal use was carried out and a checklist of
plant species of Huasca was prepared. The
methodology consisted in: literature review,
collection of botanical specimens in the
localities from El Zembo, Sto. Domingo,
San Jerónimo, San Sebastián, Naranjastitla
and the Municipal Capital; compilation of
the use of medicinal plants through directed
interviews and taped conversations, recording of common names of plants collected,
transcription of the taped conversations to
the analysis of information and identification of the material collected through the
use of taxonomic keys; 576 specimens were
collected, obtaining as a result the determination of 69 families, 148 genera and 222
species of plants, of which 94 species within
40 families and 72 genera have some medicinal use; 140 are new records for the area of
study and of the 94 species with medicinal
use, 76 species were found as new records
of medicinal plants. The families better
represented by the number of species, both
for the medicinal flora like of the flora of the
study area are: Asteraceae and Lamiaceae.
The diseases with largest number of medicinal species used are those that correspond
to the digestive system (30.85%), followed
by the genitourinary system (24.46%), the
musculoskeletal system (19.14%), the respiratory system (15.95%), and complications
of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum
period (11.70%)
