Abstract

In this work we report the occurrence of
Spongites yendoi (Foslie) Y. Chamberlain
(Corallinaceae, Rhodophyta) from the
Atlantic coast of Mexico and Mexican
Caribbean. This is the first record of
S. yendoi in this geographic area. The
identification was based on a morphological
revision of samples collected from several
reefs in Veracruz, Yucatan and Quintana
Roo. The vegetative and reproductive
structures as well habitat and distribution
of this species are described.
