Abstract

Pollen descriptions of four genera and ten
species of the Tribe Potentilleae (Rosaceae)
from the Valley of Mexico are reported. The
taxa studied include Duchesnea indica,
Fragaria mexicana, Potentilla candicans,
Potentilla ehrenbergiana, Potentilla
ranunculoides, Potentilla richardii,
Potentilla rivalis, Potentilla rubra,
Potentilla staminea, y Sibbaldia
procumbens. Observations of pollen grains
were carried out using scanning electron
and light microscopy. Various illustrations
of main pollen features are provided.
Tribe Potentilleae is stenopalynous due to
the absence of significant differences
among the species investigated. Also,
pollen characters are not distinctive, but
rather they overlap among species.
The pollen is tricolpate or tricolporate.
The ornamentation is striate. The only
differences found were associated to the
depth of the striation.
