Abstract

The objective of the present study is to
determine which of the endangered plant taxa
listed in the 1994 Norma Oficial Mexicana
(NOM-059-ECOL-1994) are present in the
arid zones of San Luis Potosí and to analyze to
geographical and ecological distributions of
these taxa in the state, 29 species and 5
varieties in 18 genera and 5 families are present,
42% of the endangered species are found in
rosette scrub, 33% in microphyllous
shrublands, 20% in desert grassland and 5% in
crassicaulous vegetation. The presence of 25 of
the 29 endangered species was noted in the
corridor formed by the eastern slope of the
Sierra de Librillos and the western slope of the
ierra La Trinidad, an area which includes parts
of the municipios of Matehuala, Villa de
Guadalupe, Guadalcázar, Cerritos and Villa
Hidalgo. Many of these species are endemic
and hence vulnerable to extinction.
