Abstract

A vegetation and floristic study of the cerros
El Sombrerito y Las Mariposas (Zoapapalotl)
in the municipio of Tlayacapan, Morelos,
were studied. These cerros constitute an
important portion of the nuclear zone Las
Mariposas, the second largest of the three
areas that compose the Chichinautzin
Biological Corredor Flora and Fauna
Protected Area. Located at 1,640- 2,150
meters elevation, the cerros cover ca. 8500
km2. The studied area was visited
sistematically from 1992 to 1995 with the
purpose of collect and classify the vegetation
types. Two main vegetation types are
described and an important zone of disturbed
vegetation is recognized. A list of 368 species
in 244 genera and 89 families was obtained
