Abstract

Mexico has been considered a diversity
center of the Cordia genus, which is
restore the genre Varronia P. Browne
(Boraginaceae), involving a large shrubby
species group of our flora. This motivated us
to update the nomenclature and disseminate
the changes proposed by Miller (2007).
This review is based on MEXU herbarium
collection, because it has a wide national
representation. It establishes the distribution
of 16 Varronia species, most endemic
and highly restricted distribution. For
each of the species become established
the nomenclatural types and synonymies.
Comments are made about the distribution
and habitat, and include a key for easy
identification.
